In addition, the Union did not believe in slaves like the south did. Those living in the North thought slavery was evil and wrong. CAUSES Slavery is the overall main reason there was a war. The south relied on the slavery for all of the farming that the south needed. The north spent their days working in factories without slaves in their place.
